Are you up for the challenge?
Last year, GMTV's resident psychologist Emma Kenny conducted a unique social and
scientifically tested experiment for ITV's Tonight show: Make My Kids Happy.
The programme saw a group of teenagers at a secondary school agree to strip themselves
of make up, fake tan, fashions and gadgets, to see if these are some of the reasons
behind the low self esteem levels amongst teenagers. The children also took part
in community volunteering work.
Rosenberg tests, conducted before and after, showed dramatic increases in levels
of self-esteem amongst students.
Emma has now teamed up with Simple to offer 500 schools the opportunity to take
part in a UK wide challenge to make teenagers happier, tying in with the PSHE personal
wellbeing curriculum (or equivalent).
The Simple Wellbeing Challenge takes place during September – October 2010 and we
still have a few places left for UK secondary schools who would like to take part.
Simply email your school details to wellbeing@simple.co.uk if you are interested.
Please include your school name and address, contact name, email address and telephone
number.
You don't have to go the whole way with the experiment at your school (it is entirely
up to you how you run it and it is free to enter), but the further you go, the more
dramatic the results will be! As a minimum, all we ask is that pupils follow a simple
'healthy skin regime' and make one other positive change, for instance, wearing
no make up for a 4 week period.
We will also send you free Simple Spotless Skin product samples for your students,
together with posters, leaflets and online discounts when the campaign starts in
September.
