The Detoxifying Power of Charcoal for Skin
Charcoal – it’s not just good for barbeques in the summer! Charcoal can actually work wonders for your skin, too. It’s a trend that’s growing rapidly in skincare, so it’s about time we took a look at some the benefits of charcoal for skin.
How is charcoal skincare made?
First things first – the charcoal used in skincare is not exactly the same as the charcoal used on the bbq grill. As a first step, wood is heated to mega high temperatures – up to 1200 degrees – to remove hydrogen, tar, and methane. This leaves behind a highly concentrated carbon substance that burns much cleaner than wood.
The next step is the activation stage. The charcoal may be steamed at very high temperatures to remove any remaining non-carbon elements. This creates a very porous version, which can help attract chemicals and toxins. Now it’s finally ready to be infused into charcoal skincare products.
